Clothing

Here are some important tips to best prepare for your sailing holiday:Soft bags, as they are easier to stow and adapt to the limited spaces on board.Luggage Essentials: Keep your luggage to a minimum, especially during the summer as you will end up using the same items of clothing over and over again.Shoes with Rubber Soles: Shoes with rubber soles, preferably white or trainers, are ideal on a boat. 

They offer good grip during maneuvers and protect the feet.Appropriate clothing: Bring items that you can layer on top of each other, such as a layered layer, and a thin windbreaker or k-way. Bring at least a sweatshirt, some light long-sleeved t-shirts and comfortable, long trousers.

 Avoid evening dresses and heels.High spf sun protection, a hat, sunglasses with strap so you don’t lose them in the sea.By following these tips, you will be ready to enjoy your sailing adventure to the fullest, while maintaining maximum comfort and safety on board.

 

 

Private life on a boat

It is important to start with a fundamental consideration that will be the basis for preparing your luggage for the sailing holiday. Life on board a boat involves limited and largely unknown private spaces. In this context, every scarce resource becomes precious and must be managed carefully, and our most limited personal space is the cabin. Therefore, if linen is not provided on board, it is advisable to bring with you a sleeping bag or sheets, towel and/or shower towel, preferably in microfibre (avoiding bringing a bathrobe, which usually takes up too much space and is difficult to dry) . Also, make sure you have shower slippers.

As for medications, it is advisable to bring any personal medications with you and consider having antihistamines, antipyretics, anti-inflammatories and a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is always good practice to anticipate the possibility of insect and mosquito bites, sunburn, digestive problems and minor injuries on board. With correct preparation, you will be ready to face any inconveniences and enjoy your sailing holiday peacefully.

Rules of life on a boat

The boat and its equipment are essential for your safety on board. It is important to treat them with respect, use them with care and keep in mind that they are delicate and easily damaged. In particular, you should be aware of the limited resources on board, such as water and electricity, and do what you can not to waste them. For example, when washing your hands or brushing your teeth, it is important not to leave the water running unnecessarily. On a boat, sea water can be used in small quantities to rinse the body, since there are no showers like at home. Furthermore, it is advisable to turn off the lights in empty cabins, as they are of no use to anyone.

It is also essential to avoid the use of polluting products when you are in a bay and, if you smoke, never throw your filters into the sea. Since you will be living in a limited space and sharing the boat with others for extended periods, it is important to collaborate, share and not isolate yourself. Harmonious coexistence is essential for a pleasant sailing holiday experience.




Seasickness and nutrition

Seasickness is an annoying discomfort caused by the movement of the boat on the waves, similar to carsickness, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cold sweats, the desire to vomit, drowsiness and a sense of immobility for fear of making the situation worse. This discomfort is common, especially at the beginning of a cruise, when the body is not yet accustomed to the wave movement.

To alleviate seasickness, you can adopt some effective strategies. Lying with your eyes closed and your stomach down, being outdoors and staring at the horizon (avoiding looking down while the boat is moving) or taking short breaks to relieve the stomach can help mitigate symptoms.

Below are some useful tips to prevent seasickness:

  • Avoid carbonated, alcoholic, too sweet or too sugary drinks;
    Avoid foods that are too sweet or difficult to digest, such as milk, and anything that leavens or tires the stomach;
    Do not smoke or use toxic substances;
    Don’t warm yourself by drinking spirits, they are vasoconstrictors and the cold increases them
    Focaccia, anchovies, savory biscuits, biscuits, apples, lemon, pasta and anything that absorbs gastric acids is fine.
    Eating dry foods such as crackers, biscuits, biscuits, bread and biscuits little and often certainly helps.
  • Eat healthy, light foods and don’t drink alcohol if you suffer from seasickness!
  • Avoid sudden movements, do not read inside, stay lying down.
